My Views
School Separations
I support a Malibu Unified School District. Our community should make decisions for our kids locally. Our residents know better what our schools should be, a large urban school district doesn’t face the same issues that our schools do and they don’t understand the needs or desires of our community.
Short Term Rentals
I support a mix of Hosted and Unhosted short term rentals. I believe that all STR’s should be permitted and a limited amount of permits should be allowed in each neighborhood. We need to have strong enforcement provisions and violators should have their permits revoked if rules are not followed.
Public Safety
This is a multi faceted issue. Fire preparedness/Natural Disaster, traffic, crime and other emergency preparedness issues.
Fire preparedness/Natural Disaster - Our city needs to continue to work with our residents to ensure they are prepared for the next natural disaster. Whether it is a fire, earthquake, mudslide and other event, our residents need to have the tools to provide for their safety. Additionally, they should know their possible evacuation routes and what to do if they are not available. Every resident needs to have the tools and information of what to do if they have to shelter in place. Our city has many solutions and information, but we need to make sure our residents know about them.
Traffic - Making sure our streets are safe and residents are able to move throughout our community should be a top priority. We need to work with our local law enforcement to improve our traffic management and continue to implement policies that build on safety.
Crime - As with Traffic Management, we need to work with our local law enforcement to make sure our community has sufficient resources to prevent and investigate crime when it does occur.
Emergency preparedness - Our city has many resources for our residents to learn to prepare for the next emergency, we need to make sure that everyone in our community receives the information and has the tools to be safe. Additionally, we also need to see what has been implemented in our neighborhoods and how to share those successes with other neighborhoods. Lastly, we need to improve communication with the neighboring property owners, including the County of Los Angeles, MRCA/SMMC, the State of Ca and the Federal Government. These entities need to know what they are doing or not doing that negatively affects our community and we need to work with them to find solutions.
Community Recreation
I support creating a community swimming pool, multi use fields, a permanent skate park and community meeting spaces. Our residents deserve these places to gather and recreate. We also need to have spaces for cultural gatherings, art shows, movies, concerts and other community events help us to connect with our neighbors. Malibu has a long history of being a site for creativity, it is time to have locations to share our experiences.
Homelessness
We need to continue the work that our Homelessness Taskforce and other community advocates have been doing. We also need to work with the County of Los Angeles and State of Ca to ensure that we have access to resources they have available. Many services are available for those citizens that are experiencing homelessness, we need to make sure that those in need are connected with them.
